Good Governance Forum - DBP: Taking Corporate Governance to a New Level
15 July 2013 (Monday) / 9:30 a.m. / Bulwagan ng Diwang Pilipino

Good morning.

What you have witnessed and participated in this morning is a first for DBP. When the idea of conducting a forum on good governance was presented to me, I immediately embraced it. This forum just cemented DBP’s commitment to good governance.
First off, I would like to thank our speakers: Mr. Cesar Villanueva, chairman of the Governance Commission on GOCCs (or the GCG); Mr. Raoul Creencia, Government Corporate Counsel of the OGCC; and Mr. Ramon del Rosario, Jr., chairman of the Makati Business Club. Your expertise in your respective fields greatly contributed to this morning’s event. Thank you for the experiences and wisdom you have shared with us.

To our audience -- thank you. Your presence this morning means you are willing to take the lead in the promotion of good governance. I hope whatever learning or insights you have gained today will be manifested in your daily work in the Bank.
Today, we took corporate governance to a new level. We have already taken steps toward this direction as mentioned by Chairman Nunez earlier, but now DBP is even more dedicated to this undertaking.

Our business in DBP is primarily anchored on trust. Our clients trust that we are able to take care of them and their financing and banking needs. And one of the building blocks of trust in public office is good governance. So to ensure that DBP remains to be the country’s premier development financial institution, good governance is as important as ever.

For the first six months of this year, DBP showed good financial results. This would not have been possible if not for everyone’s hard work, and of course, the decisions and processes that were properly made and implemented. You see, good governance really pays.

Let us continue what we have started here. We have gotten the ball rolling and reaped its benefits. But more than that, a task has been passed on to us. Let us step up and take the leadership role in promoting good governance. Remember: what transpired from this forum is just the beginning of greater and better things -- for DBP, for our development partners, and the Filipino people.

Once again, good morning!
